Suíomh Nua: Iora Rua
Tháinig sé seo isteach
ónár gcairde ag Iora Rua, ár mball Elke Watson ina
measc. Go raibh maith agaibh, a chairde!
"Seo chugat láithreán gréasáin Ghaeilge nua:
www.iorarua.com.
Tá an togra seo á fhorbairt ag díograiseoirí agus
foghlaimeoirí Gaeilge. Is suíomh uathúil é a chuireann
síos ar ranganna/scoileanna agus acmhainní timpeall an
domhain. Ina theannta sin, cuireann sé béim ar úsáid na
Gaeilge le hailt faoin chócaireacht agus gníomhaíochtaí
eile dá leithéid.
Ní saoránach na
Gaeltachta í Elke Watson, bunaitheoir an tsuímh, tá
cónaí uirthi sna Sleibhte Gorma, in iarthar Sydney na
hAstraíle. Cé gur Gearmánach í, chuir sí an-suim agus
spéis sa Ghaeilge. Thosaigh sí ag foghlaim trí bliana o
shin. Mar fhoghlaimeoir, tá cleachtadh aici ar na
deacrachtaí a bhaineann le scoileanna nó cursaí cuí a
aimsiú ina baile féin. Bíonn na grupaí níos eagraithe
na laethanta seo don chuid is mó áfach, agus is minic a
bhíonn láithreán gréasáin acu.
Sí aidhm IoraRua.com ná eolas a bhailiú faoi ranganna ar
fud na tíre agus leoga, ar fud an domhain. Beidh an
suíomh ina chuidiú mhór ag eagraíochtaí beaga chomh
maith agus iad ag iarraidh pobal níos leithne a
shroicheadh.
Tá na catagoirí eile ann mar thaca d’fhoghlaimeoirí ag
baint usáid as an Ghaeilge taobh amuigh den seomra
ranga. Tá dhá fhéilire ar díol chomh maith: féilire
ealaíne agus féilire deisce.
Is féilire den chéad scoth é an féilire ealaíne le 13
pictiúir ó Chaoimhghin Ó Croidheáin, ealaíontóir as
Domhnach Bat. Tagann an dearadh snasta go hálainn leis
an ealaín mar aon leis an litreoireacht i ndúch
miotalach ar ainmneacha na míonna.
Is féilire deisce nuálach é ‘Tuigim Anois’. Tá cártaí
aonair inbhailithe ar taispeáint ann i gclúdach
peirspéacs de mhéid CD. Is maith a fheileann sé don
oifig. Tá féilire chun tosaigh air a chuidíonn le
foghlaim laethanta na seachtaine agus míonna na bliana.
Tá cartúin fríd an féilire chomh maith le grinn agus
nathanna cainte. Ar chúl na gcártaí, tá ceithre chuid,
roinnte de réir datha. Míníonn siad coincheapanna
grammadaigh go simplí agus go dathúil. Cuidíonn siad a
fheabhsú do stóras focal agus bogann na gníomhaíochtaí
gairide i ‘Tuigim Anois’ foghlaim na Gaeilge ar shiúl ón
téacsleabhar agus isteach sa ghnáthshaol. Tá idir
chócaireacht agus oragámaí ann.
Gach seans gur aisteach duit ar dtús gur foghlaimeoir
atá ag forbairt na hacmhainne foghlama seo, ach, is ag
foghlaimeoirí atá taithí ar na deacrachtaí a bhaineann
le foghlaim teanga. Is ar na fadhbanna sin a dhíríonn
sí a haird. Tá saineolas ag Elke ar dearadh treorach
agus oideachas aosach agus bíonn sí ag comhoibriú agus
ag glacadh comhairle ó chainteoirí agus muinteoirí
Gaeilge maidir le tionscnamh Iora Rua.
Clíonn codanna eile an tsuímh le mana an Iora Rua
‘Teanga na Staire, Teanga an Todhchaí, Teanga an Lae
Inniu’ agus iad ag tabhairt gníomhaíochtaí praiticiúla
duit le híoslódáil.
Tabhair cuairt ar
www.iorarua.com, le do thoil, agus go bhfeice tú
áiseanna agus gníomhaíochtaí.
Go raibh céad míle maith agat, - An Fhoireann Iora Rua"

A New
Website: Red Squirrel
This came in from our
friends at Iora Rua, including our member Elke Watson.
Go raibh maith agaibh, a chairde!
"A new website has been built:
www.iorarua.com.
This initiative has been put together by Irish language
enthusiasts and learners. It is a unique site that aims
to show classes and events around the world as well as
resources. It also emphasizes the use of the language
with a cooking section and other activities.
The designer and founder of the website, Elke Watson, is
not a citizen of the Gaeltacht, the Irish-speaking
regions of Ireland. Far from it. She hails from the
Blue Mountains, west of the greater Sydney metropolitan
area. Elke, an immigrant from Germany, started Irish
lessons about three years ago and had difficulties in
locating a group in her native city of Sydney.
Nowadays, many of the Australian groups are better
organised and maintain a web presence.
Iora Rua aims to collate information on class activities
from around the country, and indeed, world-wide and also
to enable smaller organisations to increase their reach
by posting their details to the website.
Further categories are dedicated to support for
learners, using language skills outside the classroom,
as well as selling two Irish-language calendars: an art
calendar and a desk calendar.
The art calendar is a product of the highest quality;
featuring paintings of Donabate-based artist Caoimghin Ó
Croidheáin. They are beautifully complemented by a
classy design with metallic-ink lettering for the names
of the months.
The innovative desk calendar 'Tuigim Anois!' consists of
individual collectible cards that are displayed in a
perspex CD-sized stand, and is ideal for office desks.
On the front page is a calendar in Irish which will help
you memorise the days and months 'as Gaeilge', as well
as a cartoon with a caption in Irish. Contained on the
back pages are cards divided into colour-coded
sections. They explain grammatical concepts in a
colourful and user-friendly way, help you build your
vocabulary, and the activities contained in 'Tuigim
Anois!' move the Irish beyond the textbook and into your
everyday life with cooking and handicraft activities
like oragami.
At first it may seem peculiar that a learner is
developing these instructional materials, but, learners
are experienced with the difficulties of learning a
language. These difficulties prompted her to develop
material specifically targeting such topics. Her
background in instructional design and adult education
coupled with advice and help from Irish speakers and
teachers are further assets to the project.
Other parts of the site relate to the motto “Language
with History, language with a Future, language of Today”
while providing practical activities for you for
download.
Please visit
www.iorarua.com, and see the resources and
activities on offer.
Thank you very much, - The Iora Rua Team"
